Richard Jones
Richard Jones (1834-1914). Married Honor Mary Edwards.His parents kept a pub on a hill, below Clearwell Castle, in Redbrook. near Monmouth. His father was also a top sawyer. . R.J. went to Abercarn from Lydbrook in 1856 and was employed in the Abercarn tinworks. He is described in the 1871 census as a hammer man, but his nickname was Shingler Dick. He would walk to Newport and buy goods for himself and friends. He went into business & built the premises "Oakfield House" . The firm later became known as Wallace Jones & Sons. He married Honor Mary at Newent Church, known as "The Cathedral of the Forest". His wife was an educated woman, a school teacher, she taught him to read. From his second marriage to Emmeline, there was a son Herbert born 1894 and a daughter Annie (1896-1913)

About 1894. Taken before Wallace Henry was struck down with crippling arthritis in his mid 40s. Here he is with nine of his eleven children and his wife, Mary. WHJ is holding Doug (1893-1986) and Mary, his wife is holding Godfrey (1893-1945) or possibly vice versa. The backrow are Honora (known as Nora and born in 1883), Wallace Henry Junior (1884-1976.Grampie to E,L,C), Lil (1883-1961) The two in the middle are Frances (1891-1911), and Kate (1891-1950). The two on the floor are Winnie and Percy. The missing children are Gwenda, born 1895, and Chris born 1898.
